Block reference / Browser

Handle download

Names the file the page downloads, waits for it, and hands on where it was saved.

Only inWarpX Browser

Handle download picks up the next file the profile's browser downloads. It saves the file under the name you choose and can wait until the file is on disk. Place it right after the click that starts the download. The full path of the saved file can go into a variable or the table, so later blocks can use it.

The Handle download block's settings, filled in as in the example below.

Settings

Timeout (milliseconds)

How long to wait for the download to finish. When time runs out, the block does not fail. It carries on and writes the File name (Optional) you typed, or nothing.

Example30000
File download ID (optional)

Leave it empty to handle the next download. A number here means one specific download that WarpX Browser has already seen. Nothing in a workflow shows those numbers, so you will rarely need it.

Example
File name (Optional)when File download ID is empty

The name to save the file under, in the Downloads folder of the computer running WarpX Browser. Leave it empty to keep the site's name. If you leave out the extension, the original one is added.

Exampleinvoice-2026-09.pdf
On conflictwhen File download ID is empty

What to do when a file with that name already exists. Uniquify adds a number, for example invoice-2026-09 (1).pdf. Overwrite replaces the file. Prompt cannot ask in WarpX Browser, so it keeps both files, like Uniquify.

ExampleUniquify
Wait for the file to be downloaded

On: the workflow waits until the file is saved, then hands on its path. Off: the block moves on at once and writes nothing, but the file is still saved under your name.

ExampleChecked
Assign to variablewhen Wait for the file to be downloaded is on

Stores the saved file's full path in a variable.

ExampleChecked
Variable namewhen Wait for the file to be downloaded and Assign to variable are on

The variable to store the path in, used later as {{variables.invoicePath}}.

ExampleinvoicePath
Insert to tablewhen Wait for the file to be downloaded is on

Also writes the path into a table column.

ExampleChecked
Select columnwhen Wait for the file to be downloaded and Insert to table are on

The column to write the path to. If you pick none, it goes to the default column column.

Exampleinvoice_file

Every block also has the shared block settings — a description, Disable block and what to do on an error. Fields that take text accept data from earlier blocks.

What it hands on

Leaves by its only output. It always does so, even when the download failed or never came. With Wait for the file to be downloaded on, it writes the saved file's full path, for example /Users/you/Downloads/invoice-2026-09.pdf, to the variable and column you chose. If the wait runs out, it writes the File name (Optional) you typed.

Example: Download this month's invoice

  1. Open URL
  2. Click element
  3. Handle download
Where Handle download sits in the example workflow.
  1. Add Open URL with https://shop.example.com/account/invoices.
  2. Add Click element on a.download-invoice.
  3. Add Handle download. Set Timeout (milliseconds) to 30000, File name (Optional) to invoice-2026-09.pdf and On conflict to Uniquify.
  4. Keep Wait for the file to be downloaded ticked. Tick Assign to variable with invoicePath, and Insert to table with the invoice_file column.
  5. Run it. The file lands in your Downloads folder, and {{variables.invoicePath}} holds its full path.

Good to know

  • WarpX Browser watches a profile's downloads from the moment its browser opens, and again each time it is reopened. A download that the click starts just before this block runs is still caught.
  • A download that an earlier block or run already saved is skipped. Files WarpX Browser fetches itself for Save assets and Upload file are never handed to this block.
  • After the first Handle download block has run, every download in that profile is saved to your Downloads folder, including downloads no block asked for. Those keep the site's file name.
  • The block takes a download that started up to 30 seconds before it began listening — the click just before it — or while it waits. An older download still waiting to be saved, such as a file you downloaded by hand earlier, is left alone.
  • Files always go to the Downloads folder of the computer running WarpX Browser. A file name with folders, such as invoices/2026-09.pdf, puts the file in that subfolder.
  • The block never takes an error path. Check the variable or column if you need to know whether the file arrived.
