Block reference / Web interaction
Type text
Put text into an input, textarea or editable element.
Only in
WarpX Browser
Type text fills a field with the text you give it, from a fixed value or a reference such as {{variables.email}}. It works on inputs, textareas, rich-text editors marked as editable, and dropdowns built with react-select. It is quick, not human-like: for typing at a person's pace, use a text field in Forms.
Settings
- Element Selector
The field to type into. Write a CSS selector or an XPath: a value that starts with
/,(,@orid(is read as XPath. The target button lets you click the element in the profile's browser, inside iframes and shadow roots too, and the double tick checks that the selector finds something.Exampleinput[name="email"]- Multiple
Types the same text into every match at once, not just the first.
ExampleUnchecked- Mark elementwhen the selector is CSS, not XPath
Tags each element the block acts on, and skips tagged elements the next time this block runs, so a loop moves on to the next match. Only offered for a CSS selector.
ExampleUnchecked- Wait for selector
Keeps looking for the element until it appears or the timeout runs out. Off, the block looks once.
ExampleChecked- Selector timeout (ms)when Wait for selector is on
How long to keep looking, in milliseconds. The default is
5000.Example10000- Text to type
What to put in the field. It takes references such as
{{variables.email}}or{{loopData.accounts.email}}.Example{{variables.email}}- Clear form value
Empties the field before typing. Untick it to add the text after what is already there.
ExampleChecked- Typing delay (ms)
The pause between characters, in milliseconds.
0puts the whole text in at once. When the profile's window is minimized or the tab is not the visible one, the delay is skipped and the text goes in at once.Example80- Delay time (ms)
How long to wait after the block finishes, in milliseconds. Write a range such as
1000,3000to pick a random wait in it each run.Example500
Every block also has the shared block settings — a description, Disable block and what to do on an error, and Finding elements explains selectors in more depth. Fields that take text accept data from earlier blocks.
What it hands on
Writes nothing to the table or variables, and leaves by its single output. It fails with element-not-found when the selector finds nothing.
Example: Enter an email address on a sign-in page
- Start
- Open URL
- Type text
- Click element
- Add Open URL after Start with
https://app.example.com/login. - Add Type text. Click the target button next to Element Selector and click the email field in the profile's browser, or type
input[name="email"]. - Tick Wait for selector and set Selector timeout (ms) to
10000. - Set Text to type to
{{variables.email}}and Typing delay (ms) to80. - Add Click element with
//button[contains(., "Continue")]. - Run the workflow with the
emailvariable set. The address appears in the field and the form moves on.
Good to know
- The value is set by script, and the page's key and input events are fired for it. It is not typed at a human pace, and Human Emulation is not offered on this block. Forms with a text field has it, on by default.
- The field loses focus after typing. A Press key that follows should name the field in Target element (Optional).
- On an element that is not an input, textarea or editable element, the block types nothing and does not fail.
- For a react-select dropdown, the block opens the list, types the text and presses
Enterto pick the highlighted option. - Fields inside an iframe work: pick them with the target button, or use Switch frame first.
