Block reference / General

Clipboard

Reads text from your computer's clipboard, or puts text on it.

In both appsWarpX BrowserWarpX Phone

Clipboard works with the clipboard of the computer WarpX Browser runs on. Use Get clipboard data to pick up something you copied, such as a code, and pass it to later blocks. Use Insert text to clipboard to put text there, for example so a later Press key block can paste it into a field that rejects typing.

The Clipboard block's settings, filled in as in the example below.

Settings

Description

A note shown under the block's name on the canvas. It has no effect on the run.

ExampleRead the code I copied
Get clipboard data

This dropdown has no caption. It shows the mode you picked: Get clipboard data reads the clipboard, Insert text to clipboard writes to it.

ExampleGet clipboard data
Assign to variablewhen the mode is Get clipboard data

Stores the clipboard text in a variable.

ExampleChecked
Variable namewhen Assign to variable is on

The variable to store it in. Read it later as {{variables.loginCode}}.

ExampleloginCode
Insert to tablewhen the mode is Get clipboard data and the workflow has table columns

Also writes the clipboard text to a table column. It is on by default, and it only appears when the workflow's table has columns.

ExampleUnchecked
Select columnwhen Insert to table is on

The table column to write to.

Examplecode
Textwhen the mode is Insert text to clipboard and Copy the selected text on page is off

The text to put on the clipboard. References are filled in first.

Example{{variables.address}}
Copy the selected text on pagewhen the mode is Insert text to clipboard

Puts whatever text is selected on the profile's page on the clipboard, instead of the text above.

ExampleUnchecked

Every block also has the shared block settings — a description, Disable block and what to do on an error. Fields that take text accept data from earlier blocks.

What it hands on

The text read or written. In Get clipboard data mode it also goes to the variable and table column you chose. The block leaves by its single output.

Example: Type a sign-in code you copied from your phone

  1. Start
  2. Open URL
  3. Clipboard
  4. Forms
  5. Click element
Where Clipboard sits in the example workflow.
  1. Add a Clipboard block after the Open URL block that opens the sign-in page.
  2. Leave the mode on Get clipboard data, tick Assign to variable and set Variable name to loginCode.
  3. Add a Forms block that types {{variables.loginCode}} into the code field, then a Click element block for the submit button.
  4. Copy the code on your computer, then click Execute in the editor.

On WarpX Phone

  • On WarpX Phone this is still this computer's clipboard, not the phone's. To put text on the phone's clipboard or read what it holds, use the phone's Set clipboard and Get clipboard blocks.
  • Copy the selected text on page needs a page, and a phone run has none, so the block fails with it ticked.

Good to know

  • This is your computer's one clipboard, not a separate one per profile. In a run over several profiles at once, one profile can overwrite what another just copied. Keep clipboard steps to single-profile runs.
  • Anything you copy while a run is going can replace what the workflow put there.
  • Copy the selected text on page copies whatever is selected on the profile's current page when the block runs. If nothing is selected, the clipboard gets an empty string.
